Wrath Avoidance with Bluegrass

Oh Mr. Anonymous, please don't wrath me.

Went to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass show in San Francisco last weekend (7-8 October 2006):

It was a very cool festival. Really well run. Really good music. Really good weather in San Francisco (and what are the odds of that in the summertime??)

It was just really neat that it was a completely free sponserless event. Put on by Warren Hellman, an investor/venture capitalist type in San Francisco because he wanted (as I've read somewhere), his favorite musician Hazel Dickens to play a local show. So five years ago, he flew her and a bunch of others out to SF and put on this show. And it keeps getting bigger.

It began on Friday night, when four of us stayed at the San Remo in a room with two double beds... oops, I mean twin beds. Awww, what's the difference, anyway? Well... Rob here, demonstrates the difference: This was the whole room. Two twin beds a foot and a half apart and up against the walls. There was about four feet from the foot of the beds to the door (feet of the beds?). Bathrooms down the hall. All in all rather cozy. Slept surprisingly well for such a small space, though I'm sure that the whiskey probably gets an assist for that.

At the show on Saturday:

Me, Rob, and Kande.

Lynne, Karen, Mike, Me

Steve and me.

Mostly some not very good pics of the artists:

The Devil Makes Three

Todd Snider

Austin Lounge Lizards

Billy Bragg

Again... very fun. Will try to go next year as well. Though I'm thinking of finding a smaller hotel room if we can...
